 General Knowledge Test (GKT) - $100 8AM-12PM   Location:  Tallahassee Community College 444 Appleyard Dr. WD 123 & 126 Tallahassee, FL 32304   GKT Subtest Analysis. Students will learn the composition of each subject test: English, math, reading, and writing. Students will also gain understanding in the point breakdown of each subject test, helping them to be strategic in how they study and how they approach each individual subject test.  English. Students will learn quick strategies for the English subtest. Students learn pacing approaches to maximize their time on the English test. Students will also gain insight on grammar rules and concepts that show up regularly on the GKT.  Math. Students will learn to navigate the math section of the GKT with strategic precision. and learn how to use the multiple-choice options to their benefit when solving complex problems. Students will acquire math skills specifically tested on the GKT. Students will use point builders to maximize their score.  Reading. Students will learn approaches to pacing essential to mastering the reading subtest of the GKT. Students will gain insight and strategies in reading critically to maximize point acquisition. Students will understand the different types of questions: main idea, inference, writer's point of view, generalization, etc. Students will learn how to put it all together to employ a strategic approach to the reading comprehension on the GKT.  Writing. Students will learn to apply a specific writing formula to gain as many points as possible on the writing subtest. Students will organize their essays according to the formula and use complex sentences and transitions, essay graders are looking for.  Books are available for purchase for this course ($20).

Students will examine appropriate methods, strategies, and evaluation instruments, such as formative assessment, summative assessment, for assessing and monitoring student performance levels, needs, and learning. Students will also evaluate the differences between criterion-referenced assessments and norm-referenced assessments. Instructional Delivery. Student will evaluate appropriate techniques for organizing, allocating, and managing the resources of time, space, and attention. Students will apply appropriate strategies and procedures to manage individual student behaviors and group dynamics. Students will understand the importance of appropriate ELL, LEP and ESE strategies and accommodations in the classroom.  Professional Improvement. Students will understand philosophies in Florida public schools regarding professional development and professional growth.  Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct. Students will review laws and codes governing their behavior in and out of the classroom. Literacy. Students will evaluate strategies used across content areas for literacy instruction.  ELLs. Students will learn important insights on ELL instruction: stages of language acquisition, Consent Decree, classroom scenarios.   Books are available for purchase for this course ($20).
